Steve Miller

steve with a netSteve graduated from UC Santa Cruz in 1974 with a degree in Biology, and then got a second degree at San Jose State University in Entomology soon after. He worked for a while as a pest management specialist and now works at the Aptos Toyon Camp. Steve also volunteers as an interpreter at local state parks. Steve defines a naturalist as someone who is curious about the natural world, they generally keep journals, and may have a hand lens or binoculars and access to books. He identifies some of the challenges of pursuing a naturalist career path as lack of funding and the tendency for people to be afraid of the unknown, like snakes. Steve thinks some ways people can get involved in natural history is to go on guided nature hikes or visit museums and nationals parks.
