Sarah Ashlock

ashlock's faceSarah is a transfer student studying plant sciences at UC Santa Cruz who has always been interested in the natural world. Prior to coming to Santa Cruz, she worked at a plant nursery where she got to experience firsthand the joy of growing plants for food and decoration. After arriving at Santa Cruz, she was heavily influenced by the California super-course Field Quarter and the California Naturalist Certification Program and received mentorship from Gage Dayton, Kathleen Kay and Don Kroll. Sarah thinks some barriers limiting naturalist participation, especially for people of color, is that many do not know you can make a career out of naturalist interests. She believes it is important to share our own personal naturalist experiences with others if we want new folks to become more engaged as naturalists themselves.
