Anika Lehr
Anika grew up in the foothills near Ponderosa pine forests and live oaks which instilled a deep appreciation for nature at a young age. For Anika, the outdoors have always been a reprieve from the typical bustle of day to day life. Anika now works as an environmental educator for the Ramblin’ Adventure Club. Anika thinks of a naturalist as somoene who has a unique relationship with nature. Not only do they experience the awe of life, they also dedicate themselves to studying it and diving deeper into the meaningful interconnectedness of our world. Through her work, Annika hopes to share this love with the younger generations.
Anika especially enjoys natural history in Santa Cruz because there is so much unique life that is abundant everywhere you look. Anika believes encouraging curiosity is the best way to involve new naturalists. You don’t need to be in complete wilderness to notice the small wonders: even the most dense urban areas have niche environments. Abandoned parking lot can be home to the most amazing ant colonies. Connecting in an individual to the magic of nature can inspire a lifetime of study and activism.
