Species Accounts

One volume of Fred McPherson’s journal series was dedicated solely towards his Species Accounts. Fred taught his students that their species account should concentrate only on those plants or animals which they are particularly interested in. The species included in his accounts were Banana Slugs, Douglas Firs, Gray Pines (which he called Digger Pines), Madrones, Wild Ginger, Aralia, and Coast Redwoods. Each species has its own separate section which is labeled with its Latin as well as its common name. Whenever Fred created new observations he recorded the date, location, and any other important information. (Is it blooming, breeding, feeding, etc.). 

Banana Slugs

“These mollusks are one of the most common, easily seen forms of wildlife in our Boulder Creek area. I have photographed them and casually observed + studied them since the 1960s. I feel they deserve a place in my species accounts section”
